Great-great grandfather William
Gibson was the father of Phoebe Caroline
Gibson, born in 1877.
He is variously described as a looking glass frame carver (1877), looking glass frame maker (1878 and 1881), a Cabinet Maker (1896) and an Overmantel Maker (1901). He married Phoebe Virginia
Wakefield in 1877 and they had six children in all and lived in Hoxton, South Hornsey and Tottenham.
Despite having his birth and marriage certificates, I would like to tidy up his records with a death certificate. In the indexes I found an entry for a William
Gibson, St Giles London, in the September quarter of 1901. The certificate arrived yesterday, but I don't think it's for 'my' William. The certificate is for a William
Gibson (no middle names), aged 45 (the right age) who died of chronic nephritis and cardiac failure in the St Giles Workhouse, Endell Street, in the district of Bloomsbury and St Giles South. The informant was the Master of the workhouse, surname
Ellis (initials not clear). But this William was a Draper's Assistant (and has appeared in several of the censuses where William Joseph James also appears with his family). So the search needs to go on.
