Another of yesterday's certificates is more satisfying, though sad. William John Fage was my great-grandfather. His father Jem (Jim, James) died aged 50, found drowned in the River Ivel in 1902. William also died of unnatural causes of 'Fracture of skull caused by having been run down by a motor lorry' on the Great North Road in Sandy on 26th February 1940. At least, that's what the certificate says, but the event wasn't mentioned by my grandmother, even though she recounted Jem's death. There's still a possibility that this isn't the 'right' William, although his age and address (14 Longfield Rd, Sandy) fit with other known information (they were living at 10 Longfield Rd in 1911).
Now to find out more from the local papers on the inquest.
