Richard Stocking's early death

posted Monday, 25 May 2009

Richard Stocking was born around 1890, the eleventh child (I think) of my 2xgreat-grandparents James Thomas and Alice Mary Stocking, brother to my great-grandfather James Aaron Stocking. I had found various records relating to a Richard or Richard Henry Stocking beyond 1901, but none really seemed 'right'. I couldn't find him in the 1911 census, and did find a death index entry for 1904.

Richard Henry Stocking died aged 13 years on 8th August 1904 at St Thomas' Hospital. He is described as the son of James Thomas Stocking, General Labourer, Old Kent Road. He died of 'septic arthritis (right elbow joint) and pyaemia abcess of lung'. His father registered his death two days after it happened.

A sad end to this trail.
