'Killing off' Lucy Seaby born c. 1865

posted Sunday, 13 January 2008
Lucy Seaby was the younger sister of my great-great-grandmother Lavinia Seaby. The 1871 census suggests she was born around 1865 in Dry Drayton. She does not appear with the rest of her family in the 1881 or 1891 censuses; her elder sisters both worked as servants in separate households in London, but I hadn't found Lucy in this kind of position either. By 1881 she would have been 16 years old so possibly could have married: searches of the 1881 census by first name, age and birthplace did not reveal any likely candidates. So death seemed the only other possible avenue, and searches of the BMD indexes located a possible death entry for her, aged 8, in 1873. The death is recorded in the Chesterton district which covered Dry Drayton (ref: June 1873, 3b 266). Not a happy end to my search, but at least I (think I have) found her.
