Fage-Brown wedding described in local newspaper 1923

posted Friday, 11 August 2006
My mother's mother Elizabeth BROWN (nee FAGE) always said there were no photos of her wedding as they were too poor.  I was pleased to find, then, in the microfilmed copy of the Bedfordshire Times and Standard at Bedfordshire and Luton Archives and Record Services (BLARS), an account of their wedding with detail of dresses and witnesses.

“A wedding was solemnized at the Parish Church on Saturday, the contracting parties being Miss Elizabeth Sarah Fage, of 18 Longfield Road, Sandy, eldest daughter of Mr William Fage, at the same address, and Mr Horace Brown, 9 Longfield Road, Sandy, second son of the late Mr C Brown and Mrs Lavinia Brown.  The bride wore a navy blue costume and grey hat, with ribbon to match and the two bridesmaids, Miss Emily Brown, sister of the bridegroom, and Miss Susan Fage, sister of the bride, looked nice in crepe de chine costumes and white hats trimmed with green ribbon.  The bride was given away by her brother Mr Fred Fage and the bridegroom’s best man was his brother Mr George Brown.  The ceremony was performed by the Rector of Sandy.”

I'm hoping to do a bit more research in local newspapers for other branches of the family.
