Another 4x great-grandmother Margaret GIBSON died in 1873. Born Margaret BEAUTYMAN, she moved from Northumberland to London with her husband Wrightson GIBSON in the 1840s. Wrightson survived Margaret by some seventeen years. Her age at death is recorded as 62 (suggesting a birth year of 1811. This ties in with baptismal and census data which suggest a birth in 1810 in Tynemouth. Margaret is described as 'wife of Wrightson Gibson, Looking Glass Frame Maker'. She died of breast cancer and anasarca. At the time of her death, the family were still living at 24 Oxford Road, Islington East, where they are also to be found in the 1871 census.
Wrightson died after several months of severe respiratory problems (bronchitis 9 months, pneumonia 3 days). His son John registered the death (and was present at it). He and his father are both recorded as living at 4 Penn Street, Hoxton Old Town. Wrightson is shown as 76 years old at his death in July 1890, suggesting a birth year of 1814. The censuses seem to suggest an 1814/15 birth year, so again the dates tally. I haven't yet found Wrightson's christening record: he too was born in Northumberland, in North Shields. Perhaps I will make my way up north one day to search the original records.
