I've been looking for a death record for my great-great-grandfather William Joseph James GIBSON for a while, and have just ordered a certificate for him for September 1916, in Hackney, aged 60, which would fit with what is known of his birth (20 July 1856). I look forward to receiving the certificate next week - hopefully it will be the 'right' WJJG!
Update 5 January 2008.
The certificate arrived this morning (folded: following the increase in postage, the GRO now uses A5 envelopes and puts a crease in the A4 certificates). It is definitely 'my' WJJG; my great-grandmother Phoebe Caroline EPHGRAVE, William's daughter, registered the death, and he is described as a Wood Carver, which fits with previous descriptions of 'Overmantel maker' and 'Looking glass carver'.
He died on 18 August 1916 at 63 Balls Pond Road, Kingsland, South West Hackney, aged 60, of heart disease and bronchitis. At the time of registering the death, on 21st August, his daughter Phoebe was living at 32 Courthill Road, Lewisham.
I am glad to have 'found' and 'killed' him off!
