My 4x great-grandmother Eleanor WINDEBANK died in 1862 in Basildon, Berkshire. I have tracked down her death certificate which shows she died after a long illness (six years diseased uterus and bowels) aged 70. I was uncertain whether this was really her certificate until it arrived, as it was recorded with the first name Ellen, whilst her baptismal, marriage and census records all show her as Eleanor (albeit spelt in an inventive range of ways). But the certificate shows that she was the widow of Jeremiah WINDEBANK, my 4x great-grandfather and a former Innkeeper of Basildon. Eleanor's maiden name was WILSON and she was born in Oxford. There is a slight mystery in that the informant was Elizabeth BROOKER. Eleanor and Jeremiah's youngest son Benjamin married an Elizabeth BROOKER (I believe) before their first appearance in the census in 1851. It would be unusual for her to use her maiden name if this is the same Elizabeth, unless the pair weren't actually married. So yet more detective work needed!
