Death of Elizabeth Sarah Evans, formerly Hill, new Windebank

posted Monday, 25 May 2009

Elizabeth Sarah Windebank married John Hill in 1869. They were the parents of my great-grandmother Susan Caroline Hill.

John died between 1891, when he appears in the census, and 1895, when Elizabeth remarried. Her second marriage was to Thomas George Evans and they appear together in the 1901 census with some of the children from their previous marriages.

By the 1911 census, Thomas has been widowed for a second time; he is living at 14 Beechfield Road, next to many of my Stocking ancestors, with some of his younger children. Stepson John Charles Hill, a 20-year old soldier, is also in the household.

A search of the death index entries and resulting death certificate show that Elizabeth died on 30th March 1911, two days before the 1911 census was taken.  She died of a cerebral haemorrhage and coma. Her death was registered by her son, John Charles Hill. His normal residence is given as RWK Regiment, Bordon, Hants.
