Harriett Elizabeth STOCKING was born in the June quarter of 1879, at 43 Bowles Road, the fourth child and second daughter of Alice and James STOCKING's 16 (or 21)
children . She was the grandmother of Ray, a contact made through Genes Reunited. Ray confirms that she married on Christmas Day 1899 at the Church of St Philip, Avondale Square, Camberwell. Her groom was Alfred Edmund Ilott BISHOP, a Hay and Corn Carman who was born in Elmden, Essex, according to the 1901 census. He and Harriett are living by that time at 30 Dragon Road, Camberwell with their two-month old son Alfred, born in Peckham. The couple had ten children altogether between 1901 and 1922: Alfred Edmond Ilott (1901); Harriett Elizabeth Rose (1902); James Thomas (1904): Alice Maude Mary (1906); Arthur Sidney (or William?) (1908); Francis Samuel (1910); Susan Violet (1912); Alexander Archibald (1914); Jenny Emma Maude (1917) and Violet Rene (1922). Harriett died on 27 August 1945 in Lambeth, two years after her husband. Ray has provided some lovely photos and further information about Harriett's descendents from his own line.
