I'd been struggling to find a death certificate (or mention in the censuses) for Phobe Wade, my 3xgreat-grandmother, born around 1832-5, daughter of Benjamin Pason Wade. She married my 3xgreat-grandfather Charles Saffary Wakefield in 1853, and appears in the 1861 and 1871 censuses under her Wakefield married name. With many more entries being added to FreeBMD, I checked again, this time inspired to look for a marriage entry - and there she was, marrying Henry Nightingale in the March quarter of 1877 in Shoreditch.
The marriage certificate confirms the link: Phoebe was 42 at the time of marriage (c.1835 birth year), a widow, daughter of Benjamin Pason Wade, Engineer (deceased). Her daughter Phoebe Virginia Gibson and son-in-law William Joseph James Gibson were witnesses (they had married two months beforehand).
Henry Nightingale is described on this certificate (and later, in the 1881 census) as a Piano Forte Maker, son of James Nightingale (Pipe-maker, deceased).
I haven't yet found the couple in the 1891 census, but by 1901 Phoebe was again a widow and may have been in a workhouse. In the 1911 census she is a 75-year old widow, formerly a Needlewoman, living at Islington workhouse, Upper St John's Road. In 1901, her address is 15 Upper St John's Road. Henry's death was registered in the March quarter of 1901. Phoebe Nghtingale's death was registered in June 1911, so she presumably died not long after the census was taken.
